Quino
Quino, the pen name for Joaquín Salvador Lavado Tejón (1932-2020), is one of the most celebrated and influential cartoonists of Argentina. He is most for Mafalda, an iconic comic strip that sold millions all around the world. Mafalda was a smart and witty six-year old girl who questioned society and adults through a humorous child-like lens. To children and adults alike, Quino spread messages of peace, social justice, and personal integrity while also criticizing violence, rising materialism, and global issues such as wars. From its first publishing in 1964, Mafalda quickly grew in popularity, being seen in many countries as Latin America’s version of “Peanuts”.
